A DESCRIPTION: The Polka was originally a Czech peasant dance, developed in Eastern Bohemia (now part of Czechoslovakia). Now a popular social dance and a competitive dance on the Country Western dance circuit, Polka consists of both 4 and 8 count patterns and is performed with an "lilted" motion.
Polka is also one of 8 country western dances regulated by the UCWDC (United Country Western Dance Council) who describes Polka as a "progressive dance with 2-rail (streamlined) patterns with Lilt motion, emphasizing downward action on the numbered counts."
